Here is my entry for the Keos Masons 'Sinners' Contest. We had to design a character/creature that embodied one of the 7 Deadly Sins, while maintaining a strong horror theme with a predominantly organic model.
I chose Rage/Wrath as the sin I wanted my model to represent. Taking initial reference from Marvel Comics' very own angry green musclehead, wanting to choose a pose portraying pure, seething rage. Capturing the raw emotion through the silhouette felt like a good start, but the face had to match that if the model was to be successful. I really liked the idea of a roaring face, with the flesh being torn apart trying to contain it. There are details around the body that have been specifically chosen to show various aspects of 'Rage' - which I will explain in more detail in a later post.
With the contest's strong emphasis on the resulting appearance of the model - more so than the technical aspects - I was able to use a slightly expedited version of the Game-Ready Asset workflow. This allowed me to spend more time during the LookDev phase, using Unreal Engine to check and tweak the textures as I went along. I really wanted to explore the power of textures and scene setup instead of getting bogged down during the sculpting/high-poly phase (and one so often does).
Software used includes Zbrush, Blender, Substance Painter, Unreal Engine.
I thoroughly enjoyed working on this piece, and I look forward to the next one!
